..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Photo #1
This photo, being one in the category of Line and Shape, follows the criteria compositionally. It is so widespread and open, making it apply to the rule of thirds easily, and also scattering negative space in between the lily pads. The picture is well balanced between its lightness and darkness (exposure). I chose to capture my photograph in a natural environment, to create a natural, peaceful feeling. It is taken at a lower perspective to get an expanded view, creating a narrowing/fading in the distance-view. The lily pads slowly get smaller as the photo vanishes into the trail of vegetation, making the foreground, middle ground, and background visible.
The large depth of field allowed for a very detailed, in focus image. The water and lily pads are so vibrant, even in black in white, creating this added texture to the image. There are clean leading lines along the horizon of the photo, but the pads allow for the viewer's eyes to naturally scan the image as they would, without the line following through the entire image. Although the camera used did not have options for an ISO, the white balance was set on sunny for a natural light setting, as well as an even contrast throughout. The scattered, messy appearance makes this photo very unique and artistically complex.

It is no doubt that this image can trigger your senses and make the viewer feel as if they are in the setting. The picture includes so many different aspects that add to this affect, and create the peaceful, yet gloomy mood. The dark clouds add to the darkness feeling of the picture, as the canoe and calm water make the picture beautiful and alive, as the sky reflects off the pond.
The picture has a great balance of negative and positive space, although the negative space still adds great space to the picture, and serves as positive space also. It is also easily divided into the rule of thirds, yet still keeping this balanced composition. The camera was set to a sunny white balance, no particular ISO or shutter speed, but it was held at a straight-on perspective. The composition is very complex, where the foreground, middle ground, and background are noticeable, in a sense where the photograph appears very realistic. It is also easily apart of every category, holding characteristics of line and shape, texture, reflection, and motion.

Every aspect of this photograph adds to a very gloomy, dark feeling. The skull itself brings this feeling to life, and the shadows and clear edges also contribute. The main skull is so in focus at a shallow depth of field, taken straight-on and up close to catch every detail of the object. Shadows are naturally dark features of a picture, but also serves a purpose to this dark-themed photograph.
This picture is well balanced between the positive space (the skulls) and the negative space (the white background). This negative space adds to the picture by portraying this isolated, creepy object by itself. The exposure (darkness and lightness) are also well balanced keeping the skulls noticeable and standing out in comparison to a blank background. This background is also obvious due to the positioning of both of the skulls. The main skull is positioned up-close and personal, in the foreground. Knowing the other skull is placed behind the main one, puts it in the middle ground, and having this blank space throughout, covers the background of the picture. The photo overall is very detailed and realistic in relation to the feeling it gives off.
